Joshua Tree // Heath Adventures
My clients-turned-dearest-friends Kristin and Adrian have broken my heart by moving back to Toronto, but before their move, we knocked out a few of their California bucket list items. One of the bucket list items: Joshua Tree! While we wanted to camp in the park, we knew going to Joshua Tree in August could literally be a death wish, so we rented this amazing AirBnB, which met our non-negotiables for both "cute place" and "air conditioning."
In the summer heat, we made the most of the sunsets and sunrises, exploring the town and the park and relishing the feel of dry desert heat. Our eyes tired from travel and swollen from sleep, we wondered at Joshua Tree's constantly changing, oddball landscapes and excited over fleeting glimpses of animals. We were pricked by cacti, chased by bees, and also skinned our knees (I now have a scar). The last day of our trip coincided with the solar eclipse. The eclipse cooled the temps enough for all of us to lay on the hood of our rental car to watch in our eclipse glasses. Laughing at how silly we must look to passersby, I remember thinking that the moment perfectly ushered in this next chapter of our lives.
